Hand Grenade Found On Side Of Road In Hudson Valley

Police in the Hudson Valley are investigating after a hand grenade was found on the side of a roadway.

The incident occurred in Rockland County at 11:50 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, in the area of 110 W. Crooked Hill Road in Orangetown.

According to Capt. Michael Shannon of the Orangetown Police, the Rockland County Sheriff's Bomb Squad, along with the Pearl River Fire Department and ambulance squad, responded to the scene.

Shannon said all residents within a quarter-mile radius of the incident were advised to shelter in place.

The bomb unit secured the item and determined it to be a training device. 

"There is no known threat to the community at this time," Shannon said. "The shelter-in-place notice has been lifted."

The incident is currently under investigation by the Orangetown Police Department.
